Shandong University Mathematical Research Center Visiting Scholar Program

Shandong University Mathematical Research Center (MRC), founded in 2023, is located in the century-old heritage building at Hongjialou Campus of Shandong University in Jinan. It is a special advanced talent development zone for mathematics discipline approved by the Ministry of Education.

With its top-tier faculty of mathematics at Shandong University, MRC gathers a group of academic experts from world-renowned institutions. It has established the research and talent development team, led by chief professors, in six fields: Number Theory, Nonlinear Probability, Cryptographic Mathematics, Cybernetics, Analysis and Differential equations, Operations Optimization and Computational science. By implementing a mentorship-based training model under the guidance of distinguished scholars, MRC is committed to become a talent development center and a world-class academic research institute.

MRC also boasts a top-tier teaching and research environment along with a comprehensive scholarship and financial aid system. Each student is provided with an independent study and research space equipped with the necessary hardware and software facilities. Generous scholarships and opportunities for domestic and overseas study visits are available, fostering an educational ecosystem that supports the holistic development of mathematical talents.

MRC is now launching the 2024 Summer Camp for all outstanding university students. During the camp, a group of outstanding participants will be selected, and the results of this selection will serve as an important reference for recommending Ph.D. candidates to MRC in 2025.

. Selection Process for a Ph.D student

The MRC Summer Camp Admissions Committee will review the application materials, the relevant conduct assessments and then select outstanding students to participate in the summer camp activities. The list of selected participants will be published on the website of the School of Mathematics of Shandong University: https://www.math.sdu.edu.cn/. The comprehensive assessment for the summer camp will include both written examinations and interviews. Specific arrangements will be notified to the selected participants via email, text message, phone, etc.

1. Written Examination: A unified offline assessment will be organized. The assessment will cover topics including Mathematical Analysis, Advanced Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Differential Equations. The exam will have a maximum score of 100 points and will last for 2 hours.

2. Interview: Candidates who pass the written examination will qualify for the interview. The interview will last about 1 hour and will consist of two parts: self-introduction and a Q&A session. The self-introduction should last about 5-10 minutes, focusing on the candidate's publications and research achievements. The Q&A session will mainly assess the candidates ability to learn and apply new knowledge. Candidates may bring PPT and other materials to the interview.

The results of the selection will be announced on the website of the School of Mathematics of Shandong University. Students selected must complete the official application procedures for Ph.D. candidates within the specified time as stipulated by the university and the Ministry of Education.
