Lecture Series (Issue 13)丨Explicit methods for Shimura curves

Shimura curves are generalizations of modular curves.However, because of the lack of cusps on Shimura curves, it is difficult to do computation on Shimura curves.In this talk,we will present two explicit methods for Shimura curves, The first method is to realize modular forms on Shimura curves as solutions of Schwarzian differential equations associated to Shimura curves.The second method is to realize modular forms as Borcherds forms.

Lecture Series (Issue 12)丨Simultaneous Diophantine approximation of the dynamical systems ×2 and ×3

We are interested in the simultaneous Diophantine approximation problem of the dynamical systems x2 module one and x3 module one on the unit interval Precisely, we study the size of the sets of points whoseorbits under the dynamical systems x2 and x.simultaneously approach a given point with a given speed,A zero-one law for the Lebesaue measure of such sets is proved,The Hausdorff dimension formula is also obtained for the approximation of exponentia speed.We underline that one part of the dimensiona! formula is established under the famous abcconiecture. This is a joint work with Bing Li, Saniu Velani,and Evgeniy Zorin.

In this talk, Professor Ye will first survey his research and colaborations in automorphic representation theory and analytic number theory. Then he wil present his recent work in computational numbel theory using machine learning.

Lecture Series (Issue 10)丨Can You Hear Where a Drum is Struck

When you hit a drum, the sound it makes is a mix of overtones with frequencies corresponding to the drum's Laplace eigenvalues.A classic paper by Kac [“Can one hear the shape of a drum?”1966l asks if the frequencies of these overtones uniquel determine the shape of the drum head.This question is still richly studied. We recently posed a related question: Can one hear where a drum is struck? lmagine you know a drum's shape. Could you determine where it is struck, up to symmetry, by listening also to the amplitudes of these overtones? In this talk, l will state this problem precisely, give additional physical interpretations, work some examples, and share our results so far.
