Shandong University Mathematical Research Center "Pan Chengdong Incentive Fund-Young Scholars Program"

Shandong University Mathematical Research Center (MRC), founded in 2023, is located  in the century-old heritage building at Hongjialou Campus of Shandong University in Jinan. It is a special talent development zone for mathematics discipline approved by the Ministry of Education.

With its top-tier faculty of mathematics at Shandong University, MRC gathers a group of academic experts from world-renowned institutions. It has established a research and talent development team, led by chief professors, in six fields: Number Theory, Nonlinear Probability, Cryptographic Mathematics, Cybernetics, Analysis and Differential equations, Operations Optimization and Computational science. By implementing a mentorship-based training model under the guidance of distinguished scholars, RMC is committed to become a talent development center and a world-class academic research institute.

To boost the high-quality development of the mathematics discipline, promote the construction of the Shandong University Mathematical Research Center (MRC), enhance collaborative research among young scholars both domestically and internationally, and expand the talent pool of young mathematicians, MRC has established the "Pan Chengdong Incentive Fund-Young Scholars Program".

. Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

1.Be under 35 years old, of sound physical and mental condition and possess strong research potential and academic integrity.

2.Have obtained a doctoral degree from a renowned domestic or international university or research institution within the past 7 years, and have achieved outstanding research results during the doctoral program.

. Funding Duration and Contents

1.MRC provides an annual research fund of RMB 900,000, with a typical funding period of one year (starting from the date of employment).

2.MRC provides offices and regular office facilities for the scholars.

. Work Requirements

Scholars funded by this program should

1.Effectively complete the scheduled tasks according to the work plan, based on the selected research topic.

2.Undergo evaluation by the program expert group upon program completion. The specific form of assessment and evaluation will be notified separately.

3.Ensure full-time on-site work during the funding period.

4.Acknowledge the support from the "Pan Chengdong Incentive Fund-Young Scholars Program" at Shandong University upon formal publication of academic achievements.

1."Application Form for Shandong University Mathematical Research Center Young Scholars Program"(Appendix);

2.Applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree must provide the doctoral degree certificate and the graduation certificate; this year's doctoral graduates must provide the student ID card, doctoral dissertation defense resolution, or pre-defense notification;

3.Academic and research achievements. Applicants should provide materials representing their highest academic and research levels, such as papers, monographs, patents, or awards.

Please send the above application materials to mrc@sdu.edu.cn with the email subject "Name + Application for Young Scholars Program". Please merge items 2-3 into one PDF document in the order mentioned above, and name it in the format of "Name + Application Materials".

. Evaluation process

1.Preliminary Review. The MRC Young Scholars Program Working Group will comprehensively evaluate applicants based on their academic background, research direction, paper achievements, recommendations, etc.

2.Interview. Applicants who pass the preliminary review will be invited to participate in an interview. The details will be notified separately.

1.Scholars in this program cannot receive duplicate funding from the university during the funding period.
